Prevent children from becoming trapped in sex trafficking or homelessness

Prevention Department

Legacy Kids

Department Overview

With the ultimate goal of preventing children from becoming trapped in sex trafficking or homelessness, our Prevention Department engages in outreaches, discipleship, and academic programming in communities that have been strategically identified as having some of the greatest need. Through these programs, we partner with children and families to cultivate positive relationships, reduce harm, and focus on the future.

  • Tutoring offers a valuable weekly lifeline for students aged 5-12 throughout the school year. Our dedicated tutors work closely with kids, providing personalized assistance with homework and bolstering their academic skills. We aim to empower young learners, fostering confidence and success in their educational journey.

  • Huddles are weekly small group mentoring sessions for boys and girls ages 8 to 12 designed to develop capacity for healthy relationships, practice skills to navigate abusive or exploitative situations and cultivate intrinsic strength, value and purpose. Along with Bible study, Huddle topics may include personal body safety, conflict management between siblings and peers, processing grief and loss, stress management and grounding techniques, long-term and short-term goal setting and leadership development.

  • The core objective of Adopt-a-Block is to foster trust and meaningful connections with families in the communities where we run our prevention programs. This is achieved through ongoing engagement with residents and addressing both their physical and spiritual needs. Our staff and volunteers visit households door-to-door, ensuring families receive essential groceries and support.

  • Kids Club is a weekly large group mentorship initiative to engage children and families and build trust through games, stories, arts and crafts, small group mentoring sessions, prayer and song. Kids Club cultivates healthy community, establishes safety and identity, teaches social and emotional skills and trains children to be community leaders.
